貝爾文學獎評審之一馬悅然(Goran Malmqvist)最近一個月每一天在書房的工作就是為挽救遠東圖書館與博物館而努力！

■事件本末

一九八六年瑞典成立的遠東圖書館，漢學研究的藏書豐富，也是歐洲最重要的紅學藏書館。然而荒謬的是，瑞典政府要求文化機構按照市價付房租，包括遠東圖書館在內的三大博物館付不起高價房租，被迫裁員，十個人減為兩個人，留下來的館員並沒有圖書館工作的經歷，無法正常運作。更離奇的是，遠東圖書館鑲上玻璃櫃，上鎖，噴上『經、史、子、集』等大字，用來吸引中國觀光客，十萬冊藏書變成百貨公司櫥窗裡的陳設商品。

諾貝爾文學獎評審、國際知名漢學家馬悅然看不過去，今年九月在《瑞典日報》發表專文，抨擊政府政策失當。他的妻子陳文芬除了在台灣媒體披露此事，並寄發資料給朋友，希望各界聲援遠東圖書館，寫信給瑞典總理。「我們急需台灣的朋友寫信給瑞典總理與文化部！瑞典的抗議行動非常吃力，最新的情況是文化部長完全挺哥德堡館長，一點也不管知識份子的聲音，大家覺得來自亞洲的聲音能產生力量．．」信件中這麼說。

親愛的朋友：
最近一個月馬悅然每一天在書房的工作就是為挽救遠東圖書館與博物館而努力！來信附上馬悅然投書給《瑞典日報》的文章《向中國乞討保護文物的錢》。

瑞典政府與文化部至今不改變其政策，圖書館與博物館的文物是漢學家的天堂，卻在不當的房價政策裡，所屬『世界文化博物館』，簡稱SMVK，積欠政府房錢，導致縮編專業圖書館人員，同樣的問題發生在人類博物館與地中海地區博物館。

請您也加入挽救遠東圖書館行動。請寫英文信給瑞典總理、文化部與哥德堡世界文化博物館，表達您的聲音與意見，我們需要一個能夠研究與真正可以使用的遠東圖書館。

Dear Sir or Madam,

We are greatly disturbed by the shocking news that the staff of the Stockholm Far Eastern Library will be reduced to a single person lacking training in librarianship!

The Far Eastern Library in Stockholm is internationally known as one of the greatest sinological research libraries in Europe. The reduction of its staff will mean that the library no longer can serve in its original function. This is indeed a great blow not only to Swedish Sinology, but to the sinological field at large.　

As the entire civilized world knows very well, Sweden has been renowned and well praised for its remarkable history and achievement in the preservation of cultural heritage as well as the promotion of human civilization, regardless of its cultural or geographical origins. It is therefore particularly disappointing that the Swedish authorities show such blatant disregard for the normal functionality of a great library. We therefore strongly suggest that appropriate action be taken to exempt the Stockholm Far Eastern Library from the financial hardship, which is the direct cause of this profoundly regrettable situation.
